With all of the hype and the future of our nation being tossed about, finding a calm place is next to impossible. If you have already vote, thank you! Your civic duty and commitment to it has been fulfilled, at least for now. Being a part of the community is vital for its success, but there are so many feel and believe that their votes don’t matter. The more people that believe that, the more if becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Your Vote Matters
Of course your vote matters! It is, at a local level, what decides who runs the judicial system; your law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, judges, sheriffs and constables. It’s what decides who will represent you in all branches of government; senators, house members, mayors, governors, Lt. Governors, commissioners, comptrollers, etc. It determines if that new school gets built with bond measures (your money). It gets our input on local ordinances. Your voice determines how our money is spent. Not to mention, your votes determines who the next president will be.
Make Your Voice Heard
If all of the people eligible to vote would actually turn out to vote, we would have a government that is more closely aligned with the will of the people, not the will of those elected. It’s disheartening to hear people, especially the youth, speak openly about how the system is not working for them and they are not represented. This election cycle, as important as it is, will only see a 50 to 65 percent turnout. That leaves so many in the country not being represented by those holding offices. Though they may not feel that their voices are being heard, it must be stressed that there is no reason why someone that is eligible to vote, chooses not to do so. If you really want to represented, then you have no choice but to vote. Even if that means the person that you want to win does not. It’s important for you to know the different options on the ballot and vote accordingly.
Election Day is Tomorrow
Tomorrow is Election Day. We will learn the outcomes for all of these races and discover who will be leading the nation. If you haven’t done so yet, please get out there and vote! Be a part of the solution not a contributor to the anger!
