Now that it’s October and Halloween’s just around the corner, many of us want a genuine scare or two before the best holiday of the year comes around. What better way to get your fright on than at a terrifying, thrilling, bone-chilling haunted house and maybe a road trip to boot?! We have some pretty creepy ones here in Texas, and I’ve found some of the best in the state for you to visit this Halloween season. (Warning: Only for the bravest of souls!)
1) The Haunted Hotel (Beaumont)
This frighteningly awesome haunted house is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October starting at 7:13 PM. Ticket sales stop at 11:13 PM, and tickets start at $14. They are rated one of the best and scariest haunted houses in Texas by HauntWorld magazine, and are one of the longest continuously running haunted attractions in the country. Definitely check them out if you get the chance!
2) Haunted Mayfield Manor (Galveston)
Named the 3rd spookiest haunted house in America by USATODAY, this ghostly manor costs $10 a ticket for admission, and contains 12 rooms of terror for you to venture through. It’s Texas’ only haunted attraction open year round, but make sure to call for hours of operation.
3) 13th Floor Haunted House (San Antonio)
Offering two different terrifying attractions for the price of one, this haunted house has been featured on websites such as The Travel Channel, HuffingtonPost, and USATODAY. General admission tickets are $26.99, fast pass tickets are $36.99, and immediate access tickets are $46.99. Check their website for exact dates and times for this Halloween season.
4) House Of Torment (Austin)
Featuring three petrifying attractions, the Slaughterhouse, Hex of the Harvest, and Dead End District, tickets are $29.99 for general admission, $39.99 for a fast pass, and $49.99 for immediate access. Check their website for dates and hours of operation.
5) Cutting Edge Haunted House (Fort Worth)
Located in a 100 year old abandoned meat-packing plant in a section of Fort Worth known as “Hell’s Half Acre,” this multi-story haunted house takes visitors an average of 55 minutes to get through, and is actually the world’s largest haunted house! It’s been featured on media outlets such as The Travel Channel, and has been awarded one of America’s top 13 haunted attractions for 7 years in a row by hauntworld.com. Tickets cost $29.99. Check the website for hours and days of operation.
6) Moxley Manor (Bedford)
Admission to two manors filled with frights is $23.00 for general admission or $30.00 for a fast pass. Open from Fridays 8pm – 12am, Saturdays 7:30pm – 12am, posted Weekdays 8 – 10pm.
7) Creepy Hollow Haunted House (Rosharon)
You get three bone-chilling, heart-stopping attractions here for the price of one; however, due to the intensity of the exhibits here, children under 12 are not recommended. Tickets cost $30 for all three attractions. They are open on Friday & Saturday from 7PM to midnight, and Sunday from 7-10PM during all weekends in October and the first weekend in November.
8) Thrillvania Haunted House Park (Terrell)
3 frightening haunted houses, 50 terrifying acres, all for the price of $29.99. There’s also a $5.00 parking charge. Check their website for dates and hours of operation.
9) Terror Nights Haunted House (Tyler)
The largest, most frightening haunted attraction in East Texas, you will get to venture into Chisel Tooth Manor and Nightmare Factory (if you dare) for $20, or $25 for VIP admission. Check the website for details about dates/hours.
10) Scream Hollow Wicked Halloween Park (Smithville)
Get ready for 3 haunted houses and 20 acres of terror at this terrifying haunted house. They are open every weekend in October on Fri & Sat: 6pm – Midnight — Sun: 6pm – 11pm. Tickets are $15 for one attraction, $20 for two, and $25 for all of them if you dare!
11) Dark Hour Haunted House (Plano)
You want scary? You got it. General admission is $26, which grants you access to three haunted attractions: Dominion of the Dead, Coven Manor, and Voodoo Vengeance. Or you can pay $45 for a fast pass to skip the lines. During October, they’re open Fridays & Saturdays from 7PM to midnight.
12) ScreamWorld (Houston)
Voted #1 in Houston by the Houston Chronicle, Houston Press and one of the best in the country. They have discount night tickets for $17.00, regular night tickets for $27.00 and premium night tickets for $32.00. Check the website for details about dates/hours
13) Nightmare on the Bayou
This attraction in Houston covers over 15,000 acres, and claims to actually be haunted by real ghosts! They have been rated the #1 haunted attraction in the U.S. by Fangoria Magazine, and are open Fridays in October from 7-10:30PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 7-11PM. They feature two attractions, the Ghost House and Bayou Cemetery, and pricing varies based on what attraction(s) you choose to do. Check the website for more details.
