It’s been a rough couple of weeks on most all social media sites. You have to delicately walk on eggshells with some, because even the slightest wobble, forget crack, makes them reach for the proverbial knives. It’s nothing short of pretty nasty & very ugly!

It’s like anything else, you discuss to learn, not to constantly challenge or debate (as much as I love to debate). If they are especially dug in on their position, it’s almost like you’re attacking them by disagreeing with the position they hold. There should be clear right and wrong, but we have seen that even facts have been called into question. You can float the topic, but be aware of the pins that will pop it and shut it down.

I just want to eat turkey, some ham, potatoes, dressing, some greens and dessert, of course yummy cheesecake, but I don’t want anybody’s feathers to get ruffled if politics is discussed. That’s the turkey’s job only! If you’re too impassioned to discuss it, then please don’t. This should be a time of great reflection and pause. It should be a time to appreciate how you have gotten here. Plus, Lord knows that there are many other things to discuss that have not a thing to do with that hot topic.

The point is, let’s be thankful for the company we are fortunate enough to share this time with. Neither we, nor anyone else know what the future may bring. Be thankful for the bounty placed in front of you while so many others aren’t as fortunate. If possible, volunteer at a homeless shelter and share your abundance with them. Take the time to let each person know how special they are to you and how grateful you are to know and love them. The times we choose to spend with each other should be filled with joy, love and laughter! Let’s not wait until Thanksgiving to show it, either!
